Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Status: Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/Master’s student at an eligible institution in a partner country (e.g., UK, USA, Australia, Brazil, Germany).
- Non-Final Year: Must have one to three semesters remaining in their program as of Fall 2026. Final-year students are generally ineligible.
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Grade Point Average (GPA): must meet the GPA threshold for their country (e.g., 3.3/4.0 for Hong Kong, 65% for the UK, or 80% for Brazil).
- Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in the language of the research project (English and/or French).
- Availability: Must be able to complete a 12-week internship starting between May 1 and July 31, 2026.

Step by Step Application Process
- Register on the Platform: Create an account on the Mitacs Globalink Student Portal.
- Search for Projects: You must select a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 projects that align with your background.
- Ensure Diversity: Your project selections must span at least three different Canadian provinces to ensure a broad distribution of talent.
- Request References: Contact your professor early. Mitacs has very specific instructions for reference letters; ensure your referee follows the Mitacs Reference Letter Guide.
- Submit the Application: Ensure all sections, including the research rationale and CV, are completed before the September deadline.
- Interview Phase: If a Canadian professor is interested in your profile, they will contact you for a virtual interview between October and January.
- Matching Confirmation: Mitacs will send official “Award Letters” to matched students. You must sign the terms and conditions and begin your visa/permit application immediately.
- Prepare for Canada: Work with your Canadian host university and Mitacs mentors to arrange housing and travel details for your 12-week stay.
