Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship 2025, hosted by the University of Westminster in London, is now accepting applications from distinguished mid-career journalists across South Asia. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), this fully funded and highly competitive fellowship is open to experienced journalists from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. Applications close on 7 October 2025 at 12:00 UTC, offering a valuable opportunity for professionals committed to strengthening democratic journalism in the region.
Over the course of eight intensive weeks, selected fellows will participate in an ambitious academic and professional programme titled “Good Governance in a Changing World: The Media, Politics and Society.” The fellowship focuses on the critical role of the media in promoting democratic accountability, ethical reporting, public discourse, and effective responses to misinformation. Through comparative perspectives from South Asia and the UK, fellows will gain deeper insights into how journalism shapes governance and political systems. check: Cambridge Trust Scholarships 2026 | Fully Funded (UK)
Throughout the fellowship, participants will engage in specialised lectures, interactive workshops, policy discussions, and study visits, connecting them with leading UK academics, media practitioners, and policymakers. These activities are designed to broaden understanding of governance, media ethics, and political reporting while exposing fellows to international journalistic standards and best practices. The programme also encourages strong cross border networking, fostering collaboration among journalists from different South Asian countries. The fellowship culminates in a fellow led symposium, where participants present research and insights on key regional and global issues.
As a fully funded fellowship, the Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship covers full programme fees, living expenses for the entire eight-week period, and return economy airfare to the United Kingdom. Eligible applicants must have at least seven years of professional journalism experience, a postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional background, and a strong commitment to political or economic reporting in their home country. Upon completion, fellows return equipped with enhanced expertise, global exposure, and expanded professional networks, empowering them to contribute more effectively to independent, ethical, and impactful journalism across South Asia. also check: Rhodes Scholarship 2026
