Cullman Center Fellowship 2026 – $90,000 Stipend for Scholars and Writers

The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library is now accepting applications for the 2026 Fellowship Program, offering a $90,000 stipend to outstanding academics, creative writers, independent scholars, and visual artists whose work requires access to the Library’s renowned research collections.

About the Fellowship

Located at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building in New York City, the Cullman Center provides a unique environment for interdisciplinary collaboration and world-class research. Fellows are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Library’s extensive resources, engage in intellectual exchange, and produce exceptional work across the humanities and social sciences.

Fellowship Details

  • Application Deadline: September 26, 2025 (5 p.m. EDT)
  • Notification of Results: March 2026
  • Award Period: September 8, 2026 – May 28, 2027
  • Stipend: $90,000

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be academics, creative writers, independent scholars, or visual artists.
  • Propose a project that requires extensive use of the Library’s research collections.
  • Be conversant in English (all application materials must be in English).
  • Not be enrolled in a graduate program or conducting dissertation research.
  • Not be NYPL staff, trustees, advisory committee members, or their partners.

Note: The Fellowship is open to applicants working in languages other than English, as long as they meet the above requirements.

Applicants must submit the following by the deadline:

  1. Research proposal
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. Letters of recommendation (new letters only – no dossier letters)
  4. Creative writing sample or artwork sample
